Friedrich Praetorius drew a Puccini sound from the very cleanly playing orchestra and let the motifs rise sonorously from the pit.

This evening, sensitively conducted by Friedrich Praetorius, brought the Berlin audience a second 'Butterfly' highlight in a short time (after the concert performance under Kirill Petrenko in April 2025). It ended with a standing ovation.

Bruckner's Fifth, a symphony of structures and tensions, did not become here a construct of technique, but a cathedral of sound and meaning. At the center of this sonic architecture stood Friedrich Praetorius — a young conductor with a remarkable natural authority. Not authoritarian, but attentive. Not guided by formulas, but by breath, space, and time. (...) His interpretation showed what music can be when it does not impose itself, but reveals — when it does not merely play but speaks. Praetorius — a conductor with a spiritual compass.

The unpretentious young conductor from Leipzig with a spectacularly confident beating clearly has a very precise idea of how Bruckner should sound, how it should develop, how all the beautiful and most beautiful passages can be turned into an architecturally convincing work. Secondly, and this is even more remarkable, he also knows exactly how to rehearse and what to show in concert.
